Marshall looks like the real deal for Miami

The Dolphins didn’t dominate in their opener, didn’t make any eye-opening statements against a below average Buffalo team.

But the most important thing to take out of Sunday’s game? Brandon Marshall is a beast, and the best target Miami has had in years. Ted Ginn’s No. 19 jersey has officially been washed, sanitized, purified, rectified. However you want to say it, the number looks a hell of a lot better on Marshall.

His numbers, eight receptions for 53 yards, didn’t stun anyone, although he did drop an under thrown pass that could have added a 54-yard touchdown to his stat line.

It’s his physicality and the knowingness that  Miami has a true go-to receiver that give you all the reason in the world to think that the Dolphins will have breakout offensive performance this year.

The defense looks like the Dolphins’ best unit in several years, holding Buffalo under 100 total yards for much of teh game. Karlos Dansby sent an early message slamming Trent Edwards to the turf for a nasty first quarter sack. The defense will be there this year.

With two premier running backs, and a capable No. 2 receiver in Davone Bess, if Chad Henne can get the ball to Marshall often, the Dolphins could be a legitimate threat this year.

Even though Marshall dominated in Denver, after a mediocre preseason there was just this pessimistic feeling that he might not duplicate that success in Miami. Receivers come to South Florida to retire, not dominate. Marshall is just getting started.
